Mamuju People's School Construction Nears Completion by End of August

The Ministry of Public Works is pushing to finalize the construction of the Mamuju People's School in West Sulawesi by the end of August 2026, ensuring it is ready for the upcoming academic year's orientation period. As of August 2, the project had achieved 91.27% physical completion against a target of 95.98%.

Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, acknowledged technical challenges, particularly the hard soil at the construction site, which has prolonged foundation work. "The difficulty was the hard soil, which required a considerable amount of time to build the foundations. Besides several other technical obstacles. We are continuously accelerating this. Hopefully, it will be completed by the end of August," Minister Dody said during a site visit.

To overcome the rocky soil conditions, the project employs a pre-boring technique. This method involves initial drilling with a smaller diameter before pile installation, breaking up hard soil layers to allow safe and damage-free insertion of piles. To further expedite the completion of this national priority infrastructure, the Ministry plans to enhance coordination with the Indonesian Army for additional labor and with PT Hutama Karya (Persero), the implementing contractor.

The Mamuju People's School is designed as a comprehensive, free boarding educational facility on an 8.03-hectare site. It will feature buildings for elementary through high school, dormitories, teacher housing, a multipurpose hall, places of worship, a mosque, a guest house, a canteen, and a central kitchen. Modern amenities include two basketball courts and 24-hour CCTV surveillance for security.

This educational infrastructure project underscores the Ministry's commitment to improving human resource quality and supporting the government's poverty reduction efforts. The school's opening is timed to align with regional government readiness regarding students and educators, as the orientation period (MPLS) does not occur simultaneously across all areas.
