House Legal Committee supports President's plan to completely ban vapes, citing numerous harms

Indonesia is considering a total ban on electronic cigarettes, with strong support from the legislative body. Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Speaker of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), has backed President Prabowo Subianto's initiative to prohibit vapes entirely, citing their potential for misuse and the spread of narcotics.

His support comes amid alarming discoveries by law enforcement, including a recent raid on a home factory in Tangerang, Banten. This operation uncovered the production of 12,000 vape cartridges intended for illicit drug use, generating an estimated turnover of Rp60 billion and involving foreign nationals.

It is very urgent," Sahroni remarked, highlighting the gravity of the situation. He also expressed concern over the methods used to promote vape products on social media. Sahroni believes these campaigns are excessive, conducted openly, and disregard the presence of underage audiences.

He emphasized that the safety of the people is the highest law and instructed relevant ministers and heads of agencies to collaborate swiftly on regulating the e-cigarette trade in Indonesia.
