Man, 70, fined for assaulting repairman over 8,000 won part fee

A court in South Korea has fined a 70-year-old man 300,000 won for assaulting a repairman who visited his home. The incident occurred when the man became enraged upon learning that a replacement part for his water purifier would cost 8,000 won.

The man reportedly hurled insults at the 30-year-old repairman and forcefully pushed him in the chest. He was charged with assault for the incident, which took place at his home in Gimhae city in June 2026.

During the trial, the accused denied the assault. However, the court convicted him, citing the repairman's detailed testimony and video footage that showed the man acting aggressively and appearing to strike the victim. The court also considered the man's history of criminal offenses and the victim's plea for severe punishment.

Presiding judge Lee Byung-ho stated that the sentence was determined by considering the defendant's evasive attitude, his repeated criminal history, and the victim's request for strict sentencing.
