Man Allegedly Drunk Enters Quito Metro Without Paying

A man, described as being in an apparent state of intoxication, gained unauthorized access to the El Ejido station of the Quito Metro on Thursday, August 27, 2026. He entered the station without validating his ticket or paying the standard $0.45 fare.

Metro Quito personnel intervened after detecting the irregular entry. According to reports, the man reacted aggressively when confronted by staff. He reportedly shouted, struck glass surfaces, and refused to comply with their instructions. The National Police were called to the scene to manage the situation.

The Metropolitan Control Agency (AMC) has since opened an administrative sanctioning procedure against the individual for entering without payment or validation. The man refused to sign the relevant documentation, but this does not halt the administrative process. Entering the Metro platforms without payment is considered a very serious infraction, carrying a potential fine equivalent to 100% of the Basic Unified Salary, which for 2026 amounts to $482.

The AMC will complete its procedure to determine the man's responsibility before issuing a definitive fine. The Metro's User Regulations also outline penalties for other behaviors, including verbal aggression toward staff. The Metro system retains the right to expel passengers who commit infractions within stations or trains. In the first half of 2026, the Quito Metro recorded 64 security incidents, a decrease from 110 in the same period of 2025.
