Man Arrested for Online Recruitment and Extortion of Minors

Authorities in Quillacollo, Bolivia, have arrested a 30-year-old man accused of a disturbing online scheme involving the exploitation and extortion of minors. The suspect allegedly contacted underage individuals through online games, gained their trust, and then solicited intimate images. He is further accused of threatening to publish this content on social media and share it with the victims' families and acquaintances if they did not comply with his demands.

The investigation was initiated on August 6 after the mother of a 15-year-old girl reported her daughter's alleged threats from the suspect, identified as Jorge Luis E. O. The mother stated her daughter had met the man through internet games. According to the complaint, after establishing contact, the man began requesting private images from the adolescent. When the minor refused to continue sending them, the accused allegedly threatened to release the material online and expose it to her relatives and friends.

Law enforcement officials from Quillacollo's DACI unit, along with officers from the Trafficking and Smuggling division and the victim's mother, apprehended the suspect near the Cochabamba train station on Barrientos Avenue. A review of the accused's cell phone reportedly uncovered audiovisual material involving several minors. This discovery has prompted an expansion of the investigation to determine if other individuals have fallen victim to similar schemes.

The police indicated that the suspect allegedly targeted minors between the ages of 12 and 16 through various online games and platforms. The Public Ministry has filed the relevant charges, and a judge has ordered the suspect's preventive detention at the San Sebastián prison. Investigations are continuing to establish full responsibility and the scope of his alleged criminal activities.
