Man arrested in Vietnam for threatening debt collector with gun

A man in Vietnam's Dong Nai province allegedly resorted to drawing a gun and making threats when confronted about a 500,000 Vietnamese dong debt. The suspect, identified as Duong Sy Lam, 32, is now in police custody following his arrest in Khanh Hoa province.

The incident began on August 2nd when Lam reportedly used a mobile phone to ask an acquaintance at a refreshment stall to transfer the money to his account. After receiving the funds, Lam allegedly lost the money playing a mobile game and then left the stall without settling the debt. The person who had transferred the money, along with relatives, pursued Lam to reclaim the funds.

According to reports, when the group caught up with Lam on August 10th, he allegedly produced a handgun, loaded it, and pointed it at his pursuers, threatening to shoot if they continued to follow him. Fearing for their safety, the group backed off, allowing Lam to escape.

Lam then abandoned his motorbike and continued his flight, reportedly hitching a ride in a car for about 7 kilometers before walking to a cafe. There, he allegedly stole a motorbike left with the keys in the ignition, along with a mobile phone, and fled towards Lam Dong province. His escape continued through various means, including a bus to Da Lat and another to a friend's house in Ninh Hoa, Khanh Hoa province, where he was eventually apprehended by police on August 4th after a pursuit.
