Man Arrested with 260 Kilos of Marijuana After Police Chase in Paraguay

In a significant anti-drug operation, Paraguayan law enforcement successfully apprehended a suspect carrying a substantial quantity of marijuana following a high-speed chase. Agents from the 29th Police Station were conducting routine patrols in a rural area connecting La Fortuna and Hernandarias when they spotted a suspicious vehicle. Upon attempting to signal the driver to stop, the individual initiated an evasive maneuver, leading officers on a pursuit that spanned approximately five kilometers.

The chase concluded with the interception of the vehicle, a white 2023 Mitsubishi rented from WM GROP S.A., and the arrest of its driver, identified as Daniel Piris López, 32. A subsequent inspection of the vehicle revealed the presence of numerous packages wrapped in black polyethylene, concealed within the cabin. These packages contained a total of 267.8 kilograms of pressed marijuana, representing a considerable seizure for the region.

During initial questioning, López reportedly declined to provide extensive details about his operation, stating only that he had been contracted to transport the load from one point to another for financial compensation. The case has since been handed over to specialized anti-narcotics prosecutor Manuel Rojas Rodríguez, who will oversee the further investigation and legal proceedings against the arrested man.
