Man Charged After Serious Assault in Portarlington Leaves Another Man Critical

Authorities have charged a man in his 40s following a serious assault that left another man in critical condition. The incident took place in Portarlington, County Laois, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, a man in his 60s, is currently receiving treatment at Beaumont Hospital, where his condition is described as critical. The assault is understood to have stemmed from a dispute between two individuals on Main Street.

The charged man is scheduled to appear before Portlaoise District Court this afternoon. Gardaí are actively seeking information from the public regarding the incident.

Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was in the vicinity of Main Street between 12:45 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. They are also appealing for any witnesses who may possess relevant video footage, including dash cam recordings, to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
