Man charged with assault of Anthony Long in Dublin

A 29-year-old man, Nathan Kenna, has been charged with the assault of Anthony Long, who died in hospital weeks after the incident. Kenna, residing in Mulhuddart, Dublin, faces charges related to an assault that took place on Parslickstown Drive on July 3rd. He was arrested late Friday night and formally charged early Saturday morning, reportedly making no reply when cautioned. Kenna was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday, where he is expected to seek bail. During the court appearance, Garda Seán Ó Fatharta presented evidence of the arrest, charge, and caution. Kenna's solicitor indicated they were "attending but not appearing" out of respect for the circumstances and cited issues with the Department of Justice's "intransigence" as the reason for their inability to formally represent Mr. Kenna, having resigned from the legal aid panel. Despite the solicitor's statement, Kenna informed the court he wished to represent himself. Judge Áine Clancy advised him on his options, suggesting he could inquire about other solicitors or defer his bail application to "put his best foot forward." Kenna agreed to defer the application, a decision the judge deemed "wise." He stated he is currently unemployed. This is the second individual to be brought before the courts in connection with the attack on Anthony Long. Last week, 43-year-old Derek McNamee, from Swords, Co. Dublin, was also remanded in custody after being charged with Mr. Long's murder. McNamee is due to appear in Cloverhill District Court on Tuesday.
