Man charged with murder after woman found dead in refrigerator

Maldonado, Uruguay – A man faces 180 days in pre-trial detention as authorities investigate the murder of a 32-year-old woman found dead in a refrigerator with a gunshot wound to the skull. The incident occurred on May 15 in San Carlos, Maldonado.

The victim's body was discovered by a man who lived with her, prompting a police investigation. The suspect, who also lived in the residence with the victim and her young son, was initially detained. He claimed an armed intruder entered the home, shot the woman, placed her in the refrigerator, and warned him to remain silent before fleeing.

Police Chief Víctor Trezza stated that the suspect's initial account was "unusual," leading officers to the scene. Forensic examination confirmed a gunshot wound to the skull. Trezza noted that while the couple lived together, "no hypothesis is ruled out," including potential involvement in micro-trafficking, as the victim had previous records. The three-year-old child found at the precarious and unhygienic residence was placed with his paternal grandmother.
