Man charged with physical assault and multiple online sexual offenses

Norwegian police are investigating a significant case involving online sexual abuse of minors and the creation or possession of child sexual abuse material. A man in his 20s, residing in Haugalandet, faces charges related to physical assault and multiple online sexual offenses.

The investigation began in late January when the suspect was reported for a physical assault against a minor. Around the same time, police received tips from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding suspected online sexual misconduct targeting minors. This led to charges under sections of the Norwegian Penal Code concerning sexual offenses against children.

Following these initial reports, police executed a search warrant on March 5, 2026, arresting the suspect and seizing digital devices. The suspect has been in custody since the arrest. A review of the seized digital equipment revealed evidence suggesting online abuse of several minors.

Police are operating under the hypothesis that the suspect made contact with the victims through social media. However, police attorney Emma Moore emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages and extensive work remains. She noted that the scope or severity of the offenses might change as the investigation progresses, and police are also investigating under the presumption of innocence.
