Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Fatal Hamilton Stabbing

Hamilton police have arrested and charged a 26-year-old man with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of Zenin Roussel, 21. Roussel was discovered with stab wounds early Sunday morning by a taxi driver who alerted authorities.

Officers responded to the area of Main Street West and Frid Street around 2:30 a.m. on August 9, finding Roussel suffering from critical injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. The investigation indicates that Roussel and the accused had been at King Street Billiards earlier that evening.

According to Acting Det. Sgt. Lisa Chambers, a verbal altercation erupted between Roussel and another man on King Street West after the establishment closed. Police have not yet determined the specific cause of this dispute. Investigators believe the two individuals left the scene separately.

We actually believe that just by happenstance they ended up meeting in the same area again at Main and Frid [Street].

Approximately ten minutes later, the two men encountered each other again near Main and Frid streets, leading to the stabbing. Chambers stated that investigators do not believe the suspect intentionally sought out Roussel, suggesting the second meeting was coincidental. Four witnesses to the stabbing have been identified and interviewed by police. The weapon used in the attack has not been recovered, though authorities have seized a white SUV believed to be linked to the incident and are executing a search warrant on the vehicle.

Chambers described Roussel as a cherished grandson, son, brother, and friend whose death has devastated his family. "Now we have his mother grieving, his entire family grieving, and his mother now has to explain to his baby sister why he isn’t coming home," Chambers said, highlighting the profound impact of the loss. Kyle Dumont McArthur was arrested on Monday. Police are appealing to the public for any information or video footage from the area between 2 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. This case marks the ninth homicide recorded in Hamilton this year.
