Tiffany Haddish avoids jail time by pleading guilty in DUI case

Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish has avoided further jail time after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor alcohol-related driving charge stemming from her January 2022 arrest in Georgia. The 46-year-old "Girls Trip" star entered her plea via video conference and was sentenced to 12 months of probation.

As part of the plea agreement, Haddish must abstain from drugs and alcohol, complete a substance abuse evaluation, and perform 40 hours of community service. She received credit for the less than four hours she spent in jail following her initial arrest. During the hearing, Haddish expressed a desire to resolve the case, stating, "I would like to fuss a little, but in order to get out of your hair, cause it’s been four years... And I’d love to take my hair off, I’m gonna go ahead and just agree."

Haddish's legal team had previously sought to dismiss the case, arguing that the lengthy delay violated her right to a speedy trial. However, the judge found that Haddish and her lawyers had requested some of the delays. Her charges originated from a 911 call reporting a driver asleep at the wheel of a white Ford Explorer in Peachtree City, Georgia. An officer subsequently stopped Haddish, who matched the vehicle description.

This case follows a separate incident in November 2023 where Haddish was arrested in California on suspicion of DUI. She reached a plea deal in that case in February 2024, pleading no contest to a vehicle code violation, with two misdemeanor DUI charges dropped. She was placed on probation and ordered to complete a driver's education program and a victim impact program.
