Man dies in hit-and-run while putting up party flags

A tragic accident in Rantau, Negeri Sembilan, has claimed the life of a 23-year-old man who was struck by a lorry while engaged in political campaigning. The incident occurred on the Jalan Kuala Sawah-Rantau road near Kampung Belangkan around 6:40 p.m. on Sunday.

The victim was on the left shoulder of the road, heading towards Rantau, in the process of installing political party flags. Preliminary investigations suggest that the lorry, the type and registration of which are still unidentified, first collided with a signpost before veering into the victim.

After the incident, the lorry is believed to have left the scene and efforts to track down the driver and witnesses are ongoing.

Following the collision, the lorry reportedly fled the scene. The victim sustained severe injuries to his face and head and was pronounced dead at the location. Police are actively conducting a search for the driver of the lorry and any potential witnesses to the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Authorities are continuing their efforts to gather more information and piece together the events that led to the fatal accident.
