Man fires 5 shots in parking lot over debt dispute, then surrenders

A man in New Taipei City allegedly fired five shots in a parking lot late at night, reportedly over a debt dispute, before turning himself in to the police. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Ke, is accused of following 24-year-old Li in his car.

According to reports, Ke followed Li to a parking lot on Xinbei Avenue, and after Li parked and exited his vehicle, Ke allegedly produced a modified firearm and fired shots into the air and at the ground. The incident occurred around 11:00 pm on the 2nd.

Police responded to the scene and collected five shell casings. Fortunately, the shots were not aimed directly at Li, and no one was injured during the incident. Ke reportedly fled the scene immediately after firing the shots.

Approximately 20 minutes later, Ke drove to the Danfeng Police Station and surrendered, bringing the firearm used. Police arrested Ke and seized the weapon. Preliminary investigations suggest the motive was a debt dispute, but a special task force has been formed to investigate the firearm's origin, the exact motive, and whether there were any instigators. Ke is being investigated for attempted murder and firearms offenses.
