Man found burned to death in vehicle in La Vega identified

Police in La Vega have identified Martín Antonio Salvador Burgos Solano, 63, as the man found completely burned inside a vehicle at a mine near the Duarte Highway. The identification marks a significant step in the investigation, which began Friday morning when the body was discovered without any visible identification.

A witness told authorities that Burgos Solano entered the mining area alone in the vehicle. Minutes later, the witness saw the car engulfed in flames and called emergency services. Firefighters responded and extinguished the blaze, locating Burgos Solano's body near the burned-out car.

The witness called the National System of Attention to Emergencies and Security 9-1-1, which coordinated the dispatch of a Fire Department unit.

Investigators from the Scientific Police collected evidence from the scene, including the vehicle's license plate, a completely burned cellphone, a flower pot, and a pair of bolt cutters. The police have not confirmed if the vehicle was registered to Burgos Solano or clarified the relevance of the other recovered items. They also have not stated whether any signs of mechanical failure, fuel, or other injuries besides those from the fire were found.

The forensic medical examiner preliminarily ruled the death was caused by 100% bodily carbonization. The body was sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences in Santiago for an autopsy. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances of the fire and whether other individuals were involved.
