Man Found Dead at Home in Istanbul Was Suspect in 2008 Murder Case

A man identified as Aykut Akhoroz was discovered dead in his Istanbul apartment on Wednesday evening, prompting a police investigation into his "suspicious death." Neighbors alerted authorities after noticing a strong odor emanating from the residence. Responding officers found Akhoroz deceased in the first room of his apartment.

Initial forensic examinations revealed no signs of external injuries from sharp or piercing objects on Akhoroz's body. A search of the apartment also did not yield any illicit substances. Police records indicate Akhoroz had a history of seven previous offenses.

Further investigation uncovered that Akhoroz had been among the initial suspects in the 2008 murder of Emir Karaman, a student preparing for university entrance exams, who was fatally stabbed 17 times. Akhoroz faced trial in that case and was ultimately sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison for aiding in the intentional homicide under provocation, taking his age at the time into account. The court had previously sentenced two main perpetrators to 15 years each and a third defendant, who was a minor at the time, to 10 years.
