Man in his 20s dies after being struck on Route 4 in Gjøvik

A man in his 20s found with serious injuries on Route 4 in Gjøvik early Saturday has died. Police believe he was cycling along the road when a car hit him, and the driver has not come forward.

Emergency services responded after police received a report at 3:31 a.m. The road was closed while police investigated what they described as a traffic accident involving a hit-and-run driver.

It appears that the deceased was cycling along the road and was struck. The driver of the car has still not reported themselves.

Police said they had no witnesses and no driver had reported involvement. They are seeking information about vehicles that may have been involved. Crime technicians and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s accident and analysis group were also travelling to the scene.

Police said the road remains relatively busy even at about 3:30 a.m. A motorist who alerted authorities initially drove past the injured man, then turned around and returned to report what had happened.
