Man in Ultraman costume detained during National Day celebrations

A man wearing an Ultraman costume was detained near the site of Malaysia’s 2026 state-level National Day celebrations in Ipoh after police found his behavior suspicious.

Perak police chief Mohd. Alwi Zainal Abidin said the local man, who is in his 40s, was detained at about 5 p.m. He said the man had come to watch the morning ceremony but did not cause any disturbance. Police took preventive action to protect security and keep the event running smoothly.

An initial examination found that the man had a psychiatric health record, and police planned to refer him to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta for further action.

The man came here to watch the ceremony this morning, but we found him suspicious and acted quickly by detaining him first.

Alwi said security operations during the celebration proceeded without unwanted incidents. Some 525 police officers and personnel handled traffic, the main stage and the crowd. The force was slightly larger than the previous year.

The report also recalled a security breach during the 2025 celebration, when a woman entered the main stage area and ran toward Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah. Security personnel stopped and detained her.
