Man known as "Niño" murdered in David; suspect captured after police chase

A 36-year-old man, identified by the alias "Niño," was fatally shot multiple times on Friday night in the La Fontana sector of David, Chiriquí province. The victim was reportedly arriving at the duplex he rented when three armed individuals intercepted him and opened fire as he exited his vehicle. Neighbors described the victim as living alone and being relatively unknown in the area.

Authorities confirmed that "Niño" had a history of criminal offenses, including robbery and possession of firearms. He had a previous conviction for robbery in 2010, serving 57 months, and faced another robbery charge in 2017. Law enforcement and judicial officials were present at the scene to conduct an investigation, collect evidence, and process the body.

Hours after the shooting, the National Police announced the apprehension of a 30-year-old man suspected of involvement in the homicide. The suspect was captured following a police pursuit after he evaded a checkpoint in a vehicle. While the suspect was detained, two other individuals traveling with him managed to escape. Police indicated that the arrested man may have connections to a criminal organization operating in the Las Lomas area of David. The investigation is ongoing to locate the remaining individuals and fully clarify the circumstances of the crime.
