Alleged Gang Leader 'El Abogado' Detained After Extradition from Spain to Panama

Panamanian authorities have ordered the provisional detention of Jean Carlos Valencia Escobar, also known as 'El Abogado,' following his extradition from Spain. Escobar is allegedly a key figure in the criminal structure BGD ISIS Santa Eduviges.

The extradition, facilitated by an Interpol red notice, occurred on July 30. During a hearing on August 1, a Guarantee Judge deemed Escobar's apprehension legal and formally charged him with offenses against collective security, specifically related to gang affiliation.

According to investigations, 'El Abogado' frequently traveled between Panama and Europe, coordinating drug trafficking activities with international criminal organizations. Police reports indicate he was instrumental in negotiating drug shipments destined for Europe. The organization reportedly utilized container contamination methods, both within ports and in external consolidation areas, to smuggle illicit substances.

Beyond drug trafficking, the criminal group is also under investigation for alleged involvement in homicides and other violent crimes within Panama. Escobar's arrest in Spain follows the apprehension of another alleged leader, alias 'Rujito,' in Panama, indicating a broader crackdown on this criminal network.
