Man Seriously Injured as Boat Catches Fire on Kummerow Lake

A boating excursion on Kummerow Lake turned perilous Thursday afternoon when a 40-year-old man sustained severe burns after his sports boat's motor erupted in flames. The incident occurred near Sommersdorf in the Mecklenburg Lake District, according to police reports.

The motor of one of three sports boats, with which the man was traveling, suddenly caught fire.

The man was reportedly traveling with two other sports boats when the motor of his vessel suddenly ignited around 1:00 PM. He initially attempted to extinguish the fire himself but was unsuccessful. In a desperate move, he managed to escape into one of the other boats before reaching the shore, where emergency services were alerted.

Firefighters from surrounding areas responded to the scene. The man was transported to a clinic for treatment of his serious burn injuries. Tragically, the other two sports boats accompanying him also caught fire and were destroyed on the lake.

Cranes were later used to retrieve the remnants of the burned boats from Kummerow Lake. The cause of the motor fire remains under investigation.
