Man with six prior convictions arrested for stealing gas cylinder at Mercado 4

Police in Asunción have arrested a 32-year-old man with a history of property-related offenses for allegedly stealing a 10-kilogram gas cylinder from a local food stall.

The incident occurred early Wednesday morning at a business selling grilled meats and hamburgers on Mayor Fleitas street, near the Mercado 4. According to police reports, the suspect, identified as José David Godoy Cruz, broke the lock on the establishment's entrance and then forced open the security measures protecting the gas cylinder. Surveillance footage played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending the suspect in the vicinity of Mercado 4.

The suspect allegedly entered the establishment after breaking the security lock. Subsequently, he also broke the security system that protected the gas cylinder, which was kept under lock.

Godoy Cruz has a documented record of six previous offenses, including theft in 2019, aggravated theft in 2021, attempted robbery in 2022, and aggravated theft in 2024 and 2025. The recovered gas cylinder has been returned to its owner. The suspect is now in the custody of the Public Ministry.
