Manager Gunned Down in Driver's Seat in Couva

A 51-year-old employee of the energy company Proman Trinidad was shot and killed in his vehicle on Thursday afternoon along Rivulet Road in Couva. Ricardo Diaz, who resided in Arima, held the position of procurement manager at the company's Point Lisas Industrial Estate location.

According to police reports, around 4:45 p.m., a motorist observed a black BYD Sealion 7 SUV stopped in the eastbound lane near National Energy, causing a traffic obstruction. Approaching the vehicle to offer assistance, the motorist discovered Diaz unresponsive in the driver's seat, having sustained gunshot wounds. Several spent shell casings were visible on the roadway.

Officers from the Couva Police Station responded and confirmed Diaz was deceased at the scene. Crime scene investigators processed the area, recovering evidence including 9mm shell casings and a projectile. Diaz had been with Proman for five years and was promoted to head of procurement about six months prior. He was last seen leaving the company premises shortly before his body was discovered. Police have not yet established a motive but are reviewing gathered video evidence. Diaz's murder marks the 147th homicide in Trinidad and Tobago this year.
