Two women among four placed under preventive detention orders

A woman accused of hiding marijuana and other contraband inside apples for a prison visit is among four people placed under preventive detention orders in Trinidad and Tobago.

Shuzelle Kirton, also known as Shuzelle Amanda Thelma P Kirton, was detained after authorities linked her to an organised criminal group allegedly trafficking drugs and other prohibited items into the prison system. The order said officers intercepted her on August 3 while she was visiting her common-law husband at Golden Grove Prison.

A transparent bag bearing the name “Troy Gregoire” reportedly contained seven apples. Hidden inside them were 53 grammes of marijuana, 54 cigarettes and 126 pieces of wrapping paper. Kirton allegedly told officers she had collected the bag from a member of Gregoire’s family and was taking the items to him.

The order also referred to a February 2025 drug case involving Kirton and Gregoire, in which police recovered a combined 511 grammes of cannabis from premises occupied by Kirton and associated with Gregoire. Police also recovered a drone, four batteries and a controller. Kirton was on bail in that matter when the prison incident occurred.

The order identified Gregoire as suspected of trafficking contraband into Arouca Maximum Security Prison, Golden Grove Prison and Port of Spain Prison through drone deliveries. Daydra James of Tobago was separately identified through confidential intelligence as an alleged Rasta City/Seven Gang associate involved in concealing and distributing firearms, ammunition and narcotics. The orders said James and others allegedly planned a murder and that her release posed a public-safety risk. The article also named Michael Daniel, known as “Trini-Man”, as another detainee linked through intelligence to the group.
