Mandra Police Station Attack: Family of 31-Year-Old Fights Back, “I Will Take Legal Action”

The family of the 31-year-old man shot inside the Mandra police station is challenging the police response and announcing legal action. His mother told Live News that her son had made threats, including threats with knives and a gun, but had never physically attacked anyone.

The incident took place shortly before 4 p.m. on Friday. According to the account of the police officer on duty, the man arrived outside the station carrying a knife and threatened him and a female officer, demanding that they hand over their weapons. The officer said he had known the man for years because police had previously taken him to a psychiatric clinic for involuntary treatment under a prosecutor’s order.

The officer said attempts to calm him failed and that the man eventually attacked without hitting anyone. He then moved toward the first floor, where citizens were also present, allegedly breaking a room door and throwing a flowerpot. A police officer suffered injuries from broken glass.

During the effort to immobilize him, a trainee officer fired his service weapon, hitting the man in the abdomen. The man, who has reportedly previously received psychiatric treatment, remains intubated in the intensive care unit of Thriasio Hospital.

His mother questioned why more experienced officers did not disarm him and said she would seek justice over the circumstances of the shooting. “I will take legal action as far as necessary.
