Manisa boosts fire response with new water tankers

The Manisa Metropolitan Municipality in Turkey is bolstering its capacity to combat fires, particularly forest fires and those in rural neighborhoods. The municipality has been distributing tractor-trailer type water tankers to enhance its initial response capabilities.

A ceremony was held at the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Fair Center for the second phase of tanker distribution, where 50 additional tankers were handed over to neighborhood headmen. This follows an initial delivery of 50 tankers, bringing the total number of water tankers provided to the communities to 100.

Our aim is to extinguish the fire with initial interventions before it grows. According to statistics, if it continues like this, we are in a very good ranking in Manisa. Thanks to our headmen and volunteer citizens, they extinguish the fire by intervening initially.

The distribution prioritized neighborhoods identified through risk analyses conducted by the Disaster and Risk Management Department, focusing on areas with a high risk of fire and a greater need for immediate intervention. The goal is to have these tankers readily available in rural areas.

These tractor-trailer water tankers are designed to play a critical role in the initial moments of a fire. By having them stationed in neighborhoods, the municipality aims to facilitate a swift initial response, thereby preventing fires from escalating before fire department teams can reach the scene. Gürhan İnal, Head of the Fire Department, expressed satisfaction with the program, noting that the tankers have already proven effective in extinguishing fires with the help of headmen and volunteer citizens. He stated that the aim is to extinguish fires before they grow, and that the tankers are being distributed across all 17 districts of Manisa.
