Maradona's neurologist, nurse testify in trial over his death

A neurologist and a nurse who attended to Diego Maradona in the days leading up to his death are scheduled to testify on Tuesday as part of the ongoing trial investigating the football icon's demise. Maradona passed away on November 25, 2020, at a residence on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

Dr. Jorge Macia, who conducted a neurological evaluation of Maradona on November 12, 2020, while the star was undergoing home treatment after brain surgery, is expected to provide testimony. Cinthia Córdoba, one of the nurses responsible for Maradona's care at the house where he died, is also slated to testify. Both had previously given statements during the judicial investigation in 2021.

Macia reportedly stated during the investigation that he found Maradona "lucid" and "oriented in time and space." Córdoba, however, criticized the work of Nancy Forlini, the coordinator of home care services for the company managing Maradona's care and one of the defendants in the current trial. Macia also mentioned coordinating his work with Forlini and reviewing the patient with Dr. Pedro Di Spagna, a clinician also facing charges.

Córdoba's testimony will follow that of Tamara Mansilla, another caregiver who previously told the court she felt uncomfortable during her visits because "things were missing to attend to him." Mansilla cited a lack of emergency equipment, such as a defibrillator or a functioning phone, and unclear logistics. She also contradicted the nursing coordinator, Mariano Perroni, another accused, regarding the indication for monitoring vital signs, stating it was prescribed but not always carried out by all nurses.
