Marcelo Rojas brings his harp and a host of guests to the Municipal Theatre

Marcelo Rojas will bring the sound of the Paraguayan harp to Asunción’s Ignacio A. Pane Municipal Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 5. The concert begins at 8 p.m. and will feature guests from Paraguay and abroad.

Rojas, described as one of today’s leading harpists, has prepared a program that moves through emblematic Paraguayan works as well as sertanejo, chamamé, rumba and pop. Japanese harpist Lucía Shiomitsu will join him. She has spent more than five decades teaching and promoting the Paraguayan harp in Japan.

Singer and composer Marcelo Gabriel will perform a selection of polcas and other songs with Rojas. Pianist Sergio Cuquejo will accompany him on several numbers, while the group Los Alfonso will join the harpist for songs by ABBA and other pieces. Dancers will also accompany some of the performances.

The evening is presented as a celebration of Paraguay’s musical heritage and culture. Rojas has built an international career over more than two decades, appearing on stages in Japan, the United States, Spain, England and Mexico, among other countries.

Tickets are available through Passline and at the theatre box office. They can also be reserved by phone for 50,000 guaraníes. Last year, Rojas surprised Brazilian singer and composer Zezé di Camargo, who admired his music, by performing for him at his birthday celebration.
