Marfin Case: Woman Extradited from Britain Appears Before Greek Prosecutors

A 46-year-old woman accused of involvement in the fatal 2010 Marfin bank arson has been extradited from Britain to Greece. She arrived in Athens on Thursday evening and was taken to Attica General Police Directorate holding cells. On Friday, she was brought before Greek prosecutors to execute an international arrest warrant and will subsequently face an investigating judge to enter her plea.

The suspect, who had been living in Brighton for six years with her family and two children, was arrested at London Gatwick Airport on July 13th as she was about to board a flight to Athens. An Interpol red notice had been issued for her arrest. She consented to her extradition after appearing before a Westminster court.

From the outset, the woman has denied any involvement in the deadly attack. According to ERT, upon learning her name was included in the case file, she contacted homicide officers, proclaiming her innocence and expressing her willingness to cooperate with Greek justice.

Police investigations suggest the woman was captured on visual material on the day of the attack, May 5, 2010, with her features obscured. Authorities accuse her of playing a supporting role to the group that carried out the assault, allegedly being near the individuals who broke the bank's window and threw Molotov cocktails inside. The renewed investigation reportedly involved re-examining photographic and visual evidence using modern analysis methods, focusing on details like build, clothing, shoes, and backpacks.

Two 42-year-old men have already been arrested and remanded in custody in connection with the same case. One is alleged to have coordinated the group and provided instructions, while the other is accused of breaking the bank's window.
