Marileidy Paulino leads medal hopes for Dominican Republic at Games

The Dominican Republic anticipates a surge in its medal tally at the Central American and Caribbean Games as weightlifting and karate make their debut. These disciplines are expected to contribute significantly, alongside strong performances anticipated from track and field star Marileidy Paulino, who is aiming for gold.

In weightlifting, Dahiana Ortiz will compete in the 48kg category for women, while Luis García (50kg) and Manuel Reyes (65kg) will represent the men. Karate also presents multiple medal opportunities, with María Dimitrova defending her kata title and Anel Castillo (+84kg), Nayelis Guzmán (-50kg), and others seeking podium finishes.

Athletics finals will feature competitions in the 1,500 meters for both men and women, long jump, women's heptathlon, men's 110m hurdles, women's 100m, and discus throw. In boxing, Katherine Bera (60kg), Junior Alcántara (55kg), Noel Pacheco (80kg), and Cristian Pinales (90kg) will fight for advancement to their respective finals.

Gymnastics also offers medal prospects, with Yamilet Peña aiming for another medal in the vault, and Analis Pérez competing on the uneven bars. In table tennis, singles players Ramón and Isaac Vila, Abit Tejeda, and Jiaji Wu will compete for spots in the round of 16, while mixed doubles pairs Isaac Vila-Esmerlyn Castro and Ramón Vila-Eva Brito are also in contention.

Skateboarder Víctor Melo will also vie for a podium finish. The "Reinas del Caribe" women's volleyball team, fresh off their victory against Puerto Rico, will face Mexico in a crucial match for a place in the final.
