Mariska Hargitay to Host Emmy Awards, First Solo Female Host in 15 Years

Mariska Hargitay, the star and producer of the long-running drama 'Law & Order: SVU,' is set to host the upcoming Emmy Awards. This marks a significant moment, as she will be the first woman to host the prestigious ceremony alone in 15 years. The last time a woman hosted solo was Jane Lynch in 2011.

Hargitay's appointment breaks from recent Emmy traditions, which have often favored stand-up comedians or late-night hosts. Last year, comedian Nate Bargatze hosted. Hargitay is only the fourth woman to host the Emmys in the 21st century, joining Ellen DeGeneres (2001, 2005), Heidi Klum (2008), and Jane Lynch (2011).

The Television Arts and Sciences Academy has entrusted Hargitay with this prominent role. She expressed her honor at receiving the assignment. Hargitay is no stranger to the Emmys, having won the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2006 for her role in 'Law & Order: SVU.' She also produced the documentary 'I Am Evidence,' which won an Emmy for Outstanding Documentary in 2017.

The Emmy Awards ceremony is scheduled for September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
