Marmot Researchers Use OnlyFans to Combat Funding Shortages

A team of biologists studying yellow-bellied marmots in the Rocky Mountains has turned to the adult content platform OnlyFans to secure vital funding for their research. The initiative, dubbed "OnlyMarms," aims to leverage the photogenic nature of the marmots to generate income after facing significant cuts in scientific grants, particularly under the Trump administration.

For decades, the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory has been conducting continuous research on these rodents since 1962. Daniel Blumstein, a researcher from the University of California, Los Angeles, explained that the work is now at risk of ending due to a lack of financial support. To counteract this, Blumstein and his colleagues established the "OnlyMarms" profile, using the English term for marmots.

Blumstein shared some initial hurdles in setting up the account, including a verification issue where the platform initially flagged that his face did not match the faces in the videos and photos he had shared. However, this was resolved through communication with the platform. The researchers hope that by sharing content of the cute and photogenic marmots, they can raise the necessary funds to continue their important ecological studies.
