Mass Exodus of August Holidaymakers: Heavy Traffic at Ports and National Roads

Greece is witnessing a massive exodus of holidaymakers as August vacationers flood ports and national highways. The Port of Piraeus was exceptionally busy from early morning, with travelers of all ages eager to set sail for their destinations.

For many, the journey began with smiles as they passed through toll booths, with green lights signaling their departure from the city. Thousands of private cars are heading towards popular vacation spots. Some travelers have opted for road trips, even sourcing fuel from Skopje, while others are heading to summer homes, friends, or relatives.

The Kifissos intercity bus station in Athens is operating at 100% capacity, with buses departing for most destinations fully booked. This surge in travel highlights a strong preference for road travel and visiting personal connections during the holiday period.

Air travel also remains significantly elevated, particularly for routes to Crete, the Dodecanese, and the Northeast Aegean islands. This widespread movement signifies the peak of the summer holiday season, with Greeks taking full advantage of the August break.
