Massive male sea turtle, weighing 300 kilos, found dead on Veracruz coast; likely hit by boat

A massive male green sea turtle, measuring an impressive 2.10 meters in length and weighing close to 300 kilograms, has been found dead on the shores of Veracruz, Mexico. The discovery occurred in the municipality of Nautla, an area recognized for its significant turtle populations. The sea turtle, identified by its species as Chelonya midas, exhibited signs of trauma, leading to the presumption that it was struck by a vessel at sea.

Fundación Yepez, a local environmental organization, reported the incident after receiving a tip from Aarón Castro González, the coordinator of Civil Protection for the Nautla City Council. Technical staff from Fundación Yepez responded to the stranding and confirmed the adult male turtle's injuries. They believe impact with a boat or a high-speed craft was the likely cause of death.

This unfortunate find highlights the ongoing threats marine life faces from maritime traffic. Fundación Yepez noted that encountering such large male sea turtles is a rare occurrence. The organization is proceeding with the necessary reports to environmental authorities to document the incident and potentially investigate further.
