Mexico State Opens 10 Drop-Off Points for Electronic Waste Recycling

The State of Mexico has initiated a significant environmental protection strategy by establishing 10 "Return Points" for the collection of discarded electrical and electronic equipment. This program, a joint effort between the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development (SMAyDS) and the private company Steren, aims to provide accessible and permanent alternatives for the public to dispose of e-waste responsibly.

This initiative is part of a broader agreement that will see the initial 10 drop-off modules operating within Steren stores. The company, a leader in technology, has committed to transforming its establishments into hubs for technological recycling. The program is designed to gradually expand, with the intention of eventually covering all 86 Steren branches throughout the State of Mexico.

During the launch of the first Return Point at Steren Shop Parque Toreo, the Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development, Alhely Rubio Arronis, emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships. "The best solutions are built when government and private enterprise work with a common purpose," she stated, celebrating the alliance with Steren.

Israel Nasielskier, Steren's Director of Retail, highlighted the company's strengthened environmental commitment through this program. The Return Points will accept small and medium-sized electronic equipment for processing and recycling. The initial locations are spread across municipalities including Naucalpan, Toluca, San Mateo Atenco, Ecatepec, Ixtapaluca, Cuautitlán Izcalli, and Nezahualcóyotl.
