Mastalerek: President Kaczyński is making a fundamental mistake

Marcin Mastalerek, a former associate of President Andrzej Duda, asserts that Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of Poland's Law and Justice (PiS) party, is making a "fundamental mistake" by altering the party's political direction. Mastalerek points to the party congress in Przysucha on October 12, 2024, as the turning point where Kaczyński redefined the political conflict, focusing on national sovereignty and alleged legal violations.

Mastalerek claims Kaczyński has abandoned key issues such as healthcare, taxes, and economic development, instead adopting themes that have long been central to the Confederation party's platform. The consequence, according to Mastalerek, is the marginalization of figures like Mateusz Morawiecki, who no longer fit the party's new focus. He described Kaczyński as out of touch with contemporary politics, "flailing from one wall to another." Mastalerek also suggested that a group within PiS is pushing for Morawiecki's removal, despite it being in Morawiecki's interest to remain and potentially take over the party.

Mastalerek noted that internal conflicts within PiS are not new but were previously hidden. Now, he says, they are visible to all Poles through social media. He predicted that if Morawiecki departs or is expelled, PiS will immediately initiate a campaign to brand him a "traitor," a tactic previously used against other departing members. Mastalerek concluded that the current PiS party is unrecognizable from the one he knew.
