Matawalle consoles victims of Zamfara terrorist attacks

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has expressed condolences to victims of recent terrorist attacks in Zamfara State and ordered a heightened military offensive across the North-West. The minister conveyed his sympathy to residents of Bungudu Local Government Area and other communities affected by the escalating violence.

Matawalle also instructed Operation Fansan Yamma and all military formations engaged in counter-terrorism operations across Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto and Kaduna states to intensify their operations by deploying every lawful and necessary measure to eliminate terrorist activities through targeted military operations.

In a statement, Matawalle reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to restoring peace, despite the recent surge in attacks. He instructed Operation Fansan Yamma and other military formations operating in Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna states to intensify their operations. The directive emphasizes deploying all lawful measures to eliminate terrorist activities through targeted military actions.

Matawalle also appealed to the public, particularly traditional rulers and community leaders, to support security agencies. He requested timely and credible intelligence on individuals aiding terrorists or supplying information for attacks on rural communities. Senior military commanders in volatile areas were ordered to strengthen surveillance and increase patrols to identify and destroy terrorist hideouts before they can be used.

The minister further appealed to the public, particularly traditional rulers and community leaders, to support security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence on individuals collaborating with terrorists or supplying information used to carry out attacks on rural communities.

The minister commended the Armed Forces and other security personnel for their gallantry and recent successes in neutralizing terrorists in several locations. He urged troops to maintain pressure until terrorism is defeated nationwide. The statement highlighted the government's resolve to combat the persistent security challenges in the region.
