While the overall trend points towards temperatures being 1.5 to 2.5 degrees Celsius above the long-term average, the month is expected to be far from stable, presenting a "weather monster" scenario as suggested by German forecasts.

The initial half of May poses particular challenges. Despite the sun's position nearing its summer peak, cooler ocean temperatures and the influence of the North Atlantic will allow cold Scandinavian air to penetrate Central Europe. This atmospheric instability, where warm southern air clashes with cold northern air, is predicted to result in rainfall slightly above average, but not in the form of gentle showers. Instead, expect localized, intense thunderstorms, potentially bringing hail, heavy downpours, and strong winds. A particularly sensitive period is anticipated between May 11th and 15th, with a real risk of cold air intrusions, night frosts in valleys, and even snow at higher altitudes. Farmers and gardeners are advised to exercise caution when planting sensitive crops, as the risk of frost may persist beyond May 15th.

From around May 20th onwards, forecasts suggest a shift towards more favorable conditions, with the arrival of the first true summer days. Temperatures are expected to rise above 25°C, offering a much-needed period of spring-summer enjoyment.
