McDonald's pulls popular corn burger after customers find stones

McDonald's South Korea has abruptly halted sales of its "Chungju Sweet Corn Cheese Croquette Burger," a popular menu item launched just 20 days ago. The burger, which had sold over one million units in its first two weeks, was part of the chain's "Taste of Korea" initiative, aiming to highlight local produce. The early termination of sales follows a surge in customer complaints alleging that stones were found within the burger.

Initially slated for sale until early August, the decision to stop selling the burger was made proactively due to customer safety concerns. "We received customer complaints about finding stones in the menu item, and we preemptively ended sales for customer safety," a representative for McDonald's Korea stated. The company is currently investigating the cause of the issue.

Online communities have seen posts from customers detailing their experiences, including one who reportedly broke a tooth after biting into a stone in the burger. The "Chungju Sweet Corn Cheese Croquette Burger" featured mozzarella cheese croquettes made with sweet corn from Chungju. Its rapid sales success underscored its popularity, with approximately 25 tons of Chungju sweet corn used for the product.
