Meerqeen breaks principles for 'Dia Perempuan Sialan'

Malaysian actor Meerqeen has set aside a personal principle of avoiding horror roles until his younger brother turns 10, after accepting a part in the new drama series 'Dia Perempuan Sialan.' The 25-year-old actor, whose full name is Muhammad Shameer Shauqeen Shaiful Izam, revealed that he only became aware of the drama's horror genre during a script reading session with other cast members.

I really had set a principle not to act in horror genre works until my sibling is 10 years old. Now he is only five years old.

Meerqeen had established a rule for himself not to star in horror productions until his brother, currently five years old, reached the age of 10. He expressed concern that undesirable events might occur for his sibling if he were involved in such projects. Despite this, he felt obligated to fulfill the responsibilities of the role and committed to delivering his best performance.

I only knew this drama had horror elements during the script reading session with other actors. I actually didn't want anything undesirable to happen to my sibling.

"For me, responsibility is still responsibility. Whether I want to or not, I have to carry it out with sincerity," he stated. During filming, Meerqeen took extra precautions, ensuring he was thoroughly cleansed before returning home, especially given his younger brother's presence. Some scenes filmed on Pulau Carey required the cast and crew to stay overnight, with some sessions extending into the early morning hours.

Meerqeen admitted to being easily frightened and generally avoids watching horror films. He described the role as challenging, acknowledging that while humans can be physically dangerous, ghosts are more frightening from a conscience perspective. He based this on his experiences with various human behaviors rather than any personal encounters with supernatural entities. 'Dia Perempuan Sialan,' directed by Erma Fatima, also features Hannah Delisha and Caitlin Halderman and is scheduled for release on the Viu platform in September.
