Megawati, SBY skip Indonesia's annual parliamentary session; Jokowi attends

Jakarta, Indonesia – Two former Indonesian presidents, Megawati Soekarnoputri and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), missed the annual joint session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the House of Representatives (DPR) held Friday. President Joko Widodo, however, was in attendance.

Megawati Soekarnoputri, the fifth president, was reportedly absent due to an "unpostponable activity," according to Djarot Saiful Hidayat, a representative from her party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). Specific details about her engagement were not provided.

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the sixth president, is currently undergoing medical treatment in the United States. He shared updates of his activities, including painting landscapes in Minnesota, during his medical check-up period via his official YouTube channel.

The session, which commenced at 08:30 WIB, featured a state address by President-elect Prabowo Subianto, who is set to become the eighth president. Several former Vice Presidents, including Ma'ruf Amin (13th), Boediono (11th), and Jusuf Kalla (10th and 12th), were present, underscoring the significance of the annual parliamentary gathering.
