Indonesian Ruling Coalition Leaders Meet Ahead of Independence Day

Secretaries-general from Indonesia's ruling coalition parties convened for a dinner in Jakarta on Thursday, August 14, 2026. The gathering, held in a familial atmosphere, was organized to welcome the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence. It also served as a moment to reflect on the nearly two years of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka's administration. Sugiono, Secretary-General of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), highlighted the meeting as an opportunity for fellowship and strengthening communication among coalition parties. "This meeting is a form of fellowship that we haven't had time for until now," Sugiono stated. "We are gathering in a family atmosphere to welcome the anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence while also reflecting on the coalition's journey over almost two years of President Prabowo Subianto's administration." The event included secretaries-general from parties within the Indonesia Maju coalition, both parliamentary and non-parliamentary. Notably, the Secretary-General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) was absent. Parties represented included Golkar, PKB, Demokrat, PAN, PKS, NasDem, PSI, PBB, Gelora, Garuda, and PRM. The Secretary-General of the United Development Party (PPP) sent regrets for his absence. Sugiono emphasized that the presence of these secretaries-general demonstrates the ongoing political communication maintained to support President Prabowo Subianto's leadership and the Red and White Cabinet. He added that the Independence Day commemoration should be a moment to reinforce unity and the spirit of mutual cooperation.
