Memorial Unveiled for Fallen Police Chief Who Died Defending Justice

A memorial plaque, "Light of Justice: Former Chief Liu Zongxin Memorial," was unveiled at the Qingshui Police Station in Tucheng, New Taipei City, to honor the late police chief who died in the line of duty nearly two years ago. Liu Zongxin tragically lost his life while apprehending a female drug suspect. The memorial aims to commemorate his bravery and ensure his spirit of unwavering dedication to social security is passed down. The unveiling ceremony, held on the afternoon of June 5, 2026, was attended by prominent figures, including Liao Xuncheng, Deputy Director-General of the National Police Agency, who is also the former chief of the New Taipei City Police Department. Liao spoke emotionally about Liu's diligence, recalling a notebook filled with detailed meeting points found among his belongings, which exemplified his meticulous approach to work and commitment to public safety. The Tucheng Police Precinct organized the event shortly before Police Day, inviting Liu's family, including his widow and two young daughters, to the ceremony, which was described as deeply moving. The precinct stated that the memorial is intended to inspire all officers to uphold Liu's legacy and transform their remembrance into a tangible force for safeguarding public security. Tucheng Police Precinct Chief Shen Mingyi emphasized that the memorial represents the highest respect for the late chief's sacrifice in defending justice with his life. The inscription on the memorial serves as a reminder that Liu's presence will forever be felt, and the "light of justice" he defended with his life will continue to shine brightly through the ongoing dedication of all police officers.
