Memphis Grizzlies player Brandon Clarke, 29, died from cocaine and heroin overdose

Memphis Grizzlies player Brandon Clarke, 29, died in May due to the combined effects of cocaine and heroin, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office has confirmed. The death was not considered intentional, with officials citing the "combined effects of multiple drug classes" as a significant factor.

Clarke was found dead near his Los Angeles home on May 11. Drug paraphernalia was discovered in the apartment. The official cause of death listed by the coroner's office includes cocaine and heroin, along with "multiple drug interactions."

About six weeks before his death, Clarke was arrested in Arkansas on charges including speeding, reckless driving, and drug possession. He was reportedly driving a new Corvette at over 160 km/h when stopped by authorities.

Clarke had been plagued by persistent injuries in recent years, playing only two games last season. His four-year, $50 million contract with the Grizzlies was set to expire next spring. The Grizzlies organization expressed deep condolences, remembering Clarke as an excellent teammate and person.
