Men Dressed as Police Arrested in Paraguay Ahead of Planned Robbery

Authorities in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, have arrested four men suspected of planning to carry out another home invasion. The arrests were made after police intercepted the suspects, who were allegedly preparing to enter a residence. According to National Police Chief Wilfrido Maldonado of Alto Paraná, the men were under investigation for other crimes and were apprehended just as they were about to commit a new offense. During the operation, investigators discovered a hand-drawn sketch detailing parts of the intended target, including the layout of a bedroom and the location of a safe. The police believe this sketch links the suspects to previous criminal activities. The four detained individuals have been identified as Patricio Vera Sánchez, 35; César Ramón Alviso Duarte, 42; Fabio Ramón Maidana Ortigoza, 27; and Elvio Paiva Riveros, 42. Police reports indicate that Patricio Vera Sánchez has an outstanding warrant for aggravated robbery, while the other three did not have prior records, though investigators are not ruling out the possibility that any existing records may have been expunged. Investigators suspect these men are responsible for a violent home invasion that occurred on August 11 in the Km 11 Acaray area of Ciudad del Este. In that incident, three masked individuals forcibly entered a home, terrorizing the occupants, including minors, and making off with approximately 15 million Paraguayan guaranis (around $2,000 USD). Evidence seized during the recent arrests, including clothing and other items, allegedly connects the suspects to this prior assault.
