Meteorologist: Heatwaves in Lithuania won't last long

Lithuania will experience a mix of weather conditions this week, with heatwaves expected to be brief, according to meteorologist E. Latvėnaitė. An anticyclone named Olaf will bring drier, calmer weather from the south and southwest starting Wednesday.

While Wednesday may still see some light rain from a warm front in the north, Thursday and early Friday will be drier, calmer, and warmer. However, a low-pressure system moving across the Baltic Sea from Scandinavia on Friday will bring rain, thunderstorms, and possibly hail. Most of Lithuania will remain very warm, with southern and southwestern regions experiencing hot weather.

Another cyclone from the south and southwest is expected to bring significant rain and potential hail on Saturday. This system could divide the country into cooler western and northwestern parts and warmer southern and eastern sections, though the exact path is still being determined. Sunday and Monday are forecast to be drier and calmer, but cooler.

Warmer weather is anticipated again from Tuesday, though likely only temporarily, and accompanied by occasional rain. Specific forecasts for the coming days include: Wednesday night with no rain, daytime highs of 20-25°C (cooler by the coast). Thursday will be rain-free with morning fog, highs of 23-28°C. Friday will bring rain and thunderstorms, especially in the east by evening, with temperatures reaching 25-30°C, potentially up to 31-32°C in the south. Saturday's forecast includes widespread, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with highs of 23-27°C (cooler in the west, warmer in the south/east). Sunday will be rain-free with highs of 20-24°C, followed by similar temperatures on Monday. Tuesday will see scattered showers and thunderstorms with highs of 22-26°C.
