Metro Police Distribute Masks and Health Services After Volcanic Ashfall

Jakarta’s Metro Jaya police distributed masks and provided basic health services after volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau spread on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Personnel from Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, Bekasi City Police, Depok Metro Police, Central Jakarta Police, East Jakarta Police, the Mobile Brigade and the Samapta Directorate went to several locations to assist residents and road users.

Alongside distributing masks, officers checked blood pressure and provided vitamins and medicines according to people’s needs. They also reminded residents to wear masks while outdoors and to maintain their health.

Metro Jaya Police public relations chief Budi Hermanto said the deployment represented the police’s effort to serve residents affected by the ash. “The police are here to provide services and help the community. We urge residents to remain calm, protect their health, wear masks when outdoors and follow official information from the government,” he said in a written statement.

Metro Jaya Police and its regional units said they would continue field services and monitoring as residents dealt with the volcanic ash.
