Metropolitanos rises to top of Liga Futve table after beating Deportivo La Guaira

Metropolitanos FC has surged to the top of the Liga Futve's cumulative standings following their recent victories against Academia Puerto Cabello and Deportivo La Guaira. The team secured a crucial 2-1 win over La Guaira on August 5 at the Estadio Olímpico de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, marking their second consecutive win in the Clausura Tournament.

Nicolás "Miku" Fedor opened the scoring for Metropolitanos in the 10th minute with a long-range shot. La Guaira equalized five minutes later through a free-kick from Juan Castellanos, which found the net past goalkeeper Yhonattan Yústiz. However, Metropolitanos regained the lead in the second half. A foul committed by Guillermo Ortiz in the 65th minute resulted in his expulsion for a second yellow card. The subsequent free-kick was converted by Andrés Ferro, sealing the 1-2 victory despite Varela's attempt to intercept the cross.

Meanwhile, Deportivo La Guaira has seen a significant downturn in performance. Between January 31 and April 26, the team had an impressive 15-match unbeaten streak. However, since their loss to Independiente Rivadavia in the Copa Libertadores on April 30, La Guaira has managed only two wins in their last 12 matches, suffering five defeats. This slump includes losses in the Copa Libertadores against Independiente Rivadavia and Fluminense, which led to their elimination from the tournament. They also suffered their first league defeat of the season in May against Academia Puerto Cabello.
