Metroselskabet selects new operator for Copenhagen Metro operations

Metroselskabet, the company responsible for Copenhagen's metro system, has announced the selection of KBH Metro Partner as the new operator for the future operation and maintenance of the city's metro lines. The decision follows a comprehensive and competitive bidding process.

Starting in September 2027, KBH Metro Partner will assume responsibility for running and maintaining metro lines M1 through M4. The contract is substantial, with an estimated total value of 17 billion Danish kroner. Metroselskabet, which is owned by the state, Copenhagen Municipality, and Frederiksberg Municipality, holds the overall responsibility for the metro's operations but is legally required to tender the service to a private operator.

Søren Boysen, Director of Operations and Maintenance at Metroselskabet, expressed anticipation for the new partnership. "We have conducted a thorough and competitive tender process with a strong field of bidders, and we now look forward to entering into a collaboration with KBH Metro Partner," he stated in the press release.

While the new contract has not yet been formally signed, it is anticipated that the agreement will be finalized in September 2026. This transition marks a significant step in the ongoing management and development of Copenhagen's public transportation infrastructure.
